Auke van Slooten is the founder of Muze, a web software studio built around a stubborn belief: the Web should stay a place where curious people can make things for themselves.

His work focuses on small, understandable tools for the open Web: libraries, editors, teaching material, and experiments that lower the distance between reading a page and changing it. Much of that work circles around the same themes as this book: programming as a way of reshaping problems, the browser as a shared workshop, and the Web as something people should be able to inhabit rather than merely consume.

Programming for Wizards grew out of that work. It is written for people who suspect that computers are not magic, but also suspect that the metaphor might still be useful.
